Barker Gillette secure acquittal for schoolteacher wrongly accused of sexual assaults

30.03.05

Barker Gillette has successfully completed the representation of a 25 year old teacher who was accused of a number of serious sexual assaults upon a 14 year old pupil of the School at which he previously taught.

Mr R was initially represented, following his arrest in February, by another firm of solicitors but he decided to instruct John Perry in August 2004. After a 2 week Trial at Harrow Crown Court which concluded on the 18th March 2005 the Defendant was unanimously acquitted by the Jury on all counts that he faced. Mr R was awarded a Defence Costs Order by the Trial Judge.

The defence case was that the complaints made by the 14 year old girl were sadly nothing more than pure fantasy on her part and even the girl's mother who was called as a Prosecution witness accepted that her daughter had a vivid imagination.
