DEPARTMENT In recent years the firm has added to its reputation
as one of the leaders in serious fraud defence work
by building up a reputation in defending some very high
profile footballers and sports related cases including
acting for 3 of the Leeds United Footballers at Hull
Crown Court, all being acquitted; the Chelsea Footballer
John Terry, also acquitted; and National Hunt Jockey Jamie Osborne.
As in the crime and serious fraud department all members
of the Sports Department are committed to obtaining
the best result for the client.
SAMPLE CASES R -v- John Terry - Middlesex
Guildhall Crown Court
John Terry and two other footballers were charged with allegations
of violence. John was acquitted by the Jury in respect of
all the allegations made against him. R -v- Lee Bowyer and Tony Hackworth
- Hull Crown Court We represented these two Leeds United Footballers
who both faced serious allegations of violence. Both were
acquitted by the Jury. Steven Barker also represented Lee
Bowyer in connection with negotiations with his employers,
Leeds United Football Club, in relation to a substantial fine
imposed by the Club as a result of the alleged incidents that
formed the basis of the Crown Prosecution. Those negotiations
were concluded successfully; Chairman Peter Ridsdale stating
publicly "Leeds United would like to thank Gordon Taylor,
Lee's Agent David Geiss and his legal adviser Steven Barker

Another Leeds United Footballer who although not charged with
violence in the Bowyer and Hackworth case, was charged with
conspiracy to pervert the course of justice and again was
acquitted by the Jury.
